Pace Research Closing Bell : Sensex Gains 162 pts, Midcap Outperforms Nifty

Equity benchmarks closed higher on the first day September month, largely driven by auto and pharma stocks despite subdued economic growth.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 161.74 points at 31,892.23 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 56.50 points at 9,974.40.
